A unified formula for discharge capacity of street inlets for urban flood management

چکیده

Street inlets play a key role in intercepting surface runoff into underground drainage systems, which can reduce the hazard degree during urban flood events. An accurate calculation of discharge capacity street is vitally important numerically modelling floods and managing resilience. A series laboratory experiments were combined with theoretical analysis this study to investigate conveyance characteristics typical grate inlet. large-scale platform was constructed, consisting an upper-layer model measuring system installed V-notch weir structure. inlet used connect upper layers, had complete structure including: grate, drain box, connection tube. total 78 experimental runs conducted using platform, discharges intercepted by measured for range incoming water depths flow velocities, where approaching Froude number varied from 0.05 0.89. These results showed that pattern converted orifice after box fully pressurized. In addition, power function derived between relative velocity through number, based on method dimensional analysis, unified formula proposed calculate inlets. The corresponding coefficients calibrated measurements. verified other obtained previous studies, indicated calculated agreed well these measurements, R2 > 0.90. Therefore, reported herein has high predictive accuracy, be numerical risk management floods.

The use of flood risk map for flood management (urban area of Nekarood)

Flood is considered as a major threat among natural disasters in the world. This case becomes more important and has a higher risk in urban areas due to the existence of important uses. Therefore, to reduce damages resulted from flood, this phenomenon must be managed and planned using structural and non-structural approaches. Considering the development in Iran has been carried out in high risk...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

Artificial intelligence techniques for flood risk management in urban environments

Urban flooding is estimated to cause £270 million pounds worth of damage each year in England and Wales alone. There has, therefore, been a clear need to develop improved methods of identifying intervention strategies to reduce flood risk in urban environments. This paper describes ground-work performed towards evaluating the relative suitability of several algorithms applied to multi-objective...
